Burke was out on a run for the first time in a while. She hadn't felt like moving since the break in, seeing as it'd be harder not to get caught when the police were specifically looking for the runners, and she hadn't felt emotionally capable. Right now, she needed fresh air. Keeping towards the outside of the city to avoid the rigmarole in town, Burke did her best not to get caught.
After about half an hour of simply freerunning, Burke was cooling off and heading slowly back to base when she was suddenly grabbed and pulled into a building. At first she thought she was caught, but that wasn't right.
"Found you." Burke recognized her ex Lenette, but even then she couldn't relax. "What are you doin' out there all alone? Sounds like you guys got sh*t going on, please be more careful. Plus it was easy just so snatch you like a pet chicken. Come talk to me."
Burke sighed, but didn't speak yet. She hadn't seen Lenette for two years, and never really intended to. Even though there was no reason for them to be apart, she found it a liability.
Lenette moved to the window, "You lost weight. And what happened to that smile of yours that seemed like it'd never go away?"
"It's been hard," Burke replied. "I couldn't keep it forever."
"Sucks. I liked it. I'll help you if you ever need it." Lenette brushed her long black mane out of her eyes and pinned it back. "I don't know the rest of them, but I'd love to make it easier for you. I got tracking devices and I keep up with the news. And you know, I can run. I'm not about ready to join a team, but if you ever need me to do something or hide you guys I can do that at the least."
"What's gotten into you, Lenne?" Burke shook her head. "You know I can't come back. They're after me. It wouldn't be the same."
"Do I look like I care? And even if you don't, I want to make sure you stay alive." Lenette persisted. "You have a phone?" Burke shook her head, "I'll give you one. Keep in touch with me, if you ever find a need for a new place, or just to take a break, I'll be here."
Burke ran and hugged Lenette, "Of course, but I can't leave my job for long."
"Thanks, babe." Lenette sighed, and shoved a phone in her hand. "Don't ask me why I got two, and I don't only have two. And I'll let you leave now." Burke nodded and left.
